"Elementry Characters"

FROM THE LEFT: A character from my very first book drawn in 1989 with markers (actually a traced reproduction of the original which remained in the book). Next, a toll-painting done in 1990 or 1991 of a character in my third book (or actually her first appearance in a short story pre-dating that book). Last, another painting of the first character's daughter (which at this skill level, is virtually undiscernable from her mother), also 1990.

"Elementry Characters #2"

FROM THE LEFT: Crayola markers were my choice of medium in the early illustrations. None of the difficulty of paint with plenty of color. The first is of a king I named in honor of one of my cousins. The second is from my first book, and also a reproduction done in 1989 (only this one the clothing is done in red instead of the original green). I got the idea that adventurers wore pointy caps with feathers from Sierra's King's Quest. Last, this character I drew with my friend after school one day in 1990. We were drawing heroes, and I thought I could draw my friend's hero better than he could.

"Elementry Characters #3"

FROM THE LEFT: The first two pictures are dim because I had to increase the contrast to get the drawings clear enough. Pencil fades out after the years. This set was done in 1989-90. Only the first is story-related, and to a short. The last one is done in watercolor and scented markers.
