In the Cenozoic there were flightless carnivorous birds in the Phorusrhacidae clade nicknamed "terror birds" with the largest almost 10 feet tall. This is an anxiety bird for my sister, Rebecca. I painted it from my imagination. Unlike the ambush terror bird, which would produce a short burst of fear as it lunged at you, the anxiety bird would patiently stalk you; every time you looked over your shoulder, it would be there. If you didn't look, it would make a low screech, so you'd always know: No, things are not okay.

Anxiety Bird (for Rebecca!). Acrylic on masonite, 6"x8".
